Community Forum

FREE! At the Carlisle Theater (40 West High Street Carlisle, PA)

Come enjoy refreshments, live music, trail related raffle prizes, and and an engaging presentation on the history and future of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail, and we will explore ways you as a citizen can participate in preserving the experience of the Trail.

6-7 pm Opening Reception

7-8:30 pm Presentation

8:30-9 pm Visit Booths and Mingle

What will the Forum be about?    We will cover the history of the trail with special guest speaker Pam Underhill, National Park Service Superintendent of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail. We will present the wide ranging positive impacts the Trail has on our local community member’s daily lives.  A large impetus for this Forum is Pennsylvania’s Appalachian Trail Act (Act 24) (see more info here: www.apptrailpa.org/act24.html) which is an ongoing state law that asks all municipalities in Pennsylvania to “use their zoning authority to preserve the AT and protect the natural, scenic, historic and aesthetic resources along the trail”.  Most importantly, we will discuss different ways you as a citizen or volunteer can be involved in preserving this national treasure.
